My doctor recently told me i needed to be on birth control for medical reasons. Of course im only 17 and i really dont know much about it. So, he wants to put me on the pill called Yasmin and i know nothing at all about it. I want to know the pros and cons of the pill? Any information would be helpful!

Yasmin has been in the news lately as there have been many allegations that it causes an increased risk in blood clots and pulmonary embolism. Recently the FDA did some studies, and they said that yasmin/yaz does cause twice as many blood clots, etc compared to the more traditional types of pills. However, that being said, a 2nd generation birth control will cause a blood clot in 1/10000 women, while yasmin will cause one in 2/10000 women. Therefore, it is still rare. But if you can achieve your health benefits with a different, older pill (Alesse for example) then I would do that.
